ABOUT MARK:

Mark Salisbury is a nationally-renowned author, speaker, educator, and champion of college price transparency as a primary way to simplify and improve the college admissions process. His work has been highlighted by the Wall Street Journal, New York Times, TED, Forbes, CNBC, The Chronicle of Higher Education, and NPR. In addition, he is a regular podcast guest for conversations about college admissions and higher education. Mark earned his PhD from the University of Iowa and holds additional degrees from the University of Minnesota and the University of Kansas. Before launching the TuitionFit project (tuitionfit.org) to empower the public by crowdsourcing college price transparency, he was an Assistant Dean of Academic Affairs and Director of Institutional Research at Augustana College in Illinois, and a Board member for the Higher Education Data Sharing Consortium.

Mark's experience in higher education spans a quarter century at both large and small colleges and universities. He began his career in college athletics, coaching both men's and women's soccer at NCAA div. 1 and 2 universities. After a decade in college athletics, during a period of intense growth and change in women's sports, Mark stepped away from coaching to focus on admissions and financial aid. Shortly thereafter, he accepted a research assistantship on a national, six-year study of college students based at the University of Iowa. This launched a new phase of Mark's career as a higher education scholar, consultant, writer, and speaker.

Mark continues to write and present to audiences across the higher education landscape. His work with TuitionFit is featured in two new best-selling books that take you behind the scenes of what’s going on in the financial aid system- Jeff Sellingo’s “Who Gets In and Why” and Ron Lieber’s “The Price You Pay for College.” He also work with The College Guidance Network as their expert on all things college costs.

In addition to his work in higher education, Mark has been a professional musician, a stand-up comedian, and an improv theater performer, even conducting workshops across the country for educators on how to apply the principles of improvisation to improve teaching and learning.

Mark lives in Davenport, Iowa, with his wife, two sons, and five cats (MEOW!).

Michael Brumm is currently a senior producer/writer for The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. He's also been a consulting producer for At Home with Amy Sedaris, and a four-time Emmy-winning writer for The Colbert Report. He is the author of the kid graphic novel series The Cryptid Club (HarperCollins), and is the coauthor of the children's book His Royal Dogness, Guy the Beagle (Simon & Schuster).

On this week's episode of the Harlan Cohen Podcast, Harlan reconnects with his old improv buddy Mike Brumm. Harlan and Mike spent time at the iO Theatre in Chicago. ABOUT LISA:

Dr. Lisa Damour is the author of three New York Times best sellers: Untangled, Under Pressure, and The Emotional Lives of Teenagers. She co-hosts the Ask Lisa podcast, works in collaboration with UNICEF, and is recognized as a thought leader by the American Psychological Association. Dr. Damour is also a regular contributor to The New York Times and CBS News.

Dr. Damour serves as a Senior Advisor to the Schubert Center for Child Studies at Case Western Reserve University and has written numerous academic papers, chapters, and books related to education and child development. She maintains a clinical practice and also speaks to schools, professional organizations, and corporate groups around the world on the topics of child and adolescent development, family mental health, and adult well-being.

Dr. Damour graduated with honors from Yale University and worked for the Yale Child Study Center before earning her doctorate in Clinical Psychology at the University of Michigan. She has been a fellow at Yale’s Edward Zigler Center in Child Development and Social Policy and the University of Michigan’s Power Foundation. She and her husband are the proud parents of two daughters.

His previous company, OfferCraft, won the Platinum Award from the G&L Roundtable for best new technology; was named Startup of the Year by the Best in Biz Awards; was named one of the Top 20 Most Innovative Technologies; and was profiled in over 200 news stories published in places like The New York Times, Forbes, Quartz, and Business Insider. It was acquired by NRT, a Canadian FinTech company that processes over $20 billion annually.

Earlier, as CEO of MacroView Labs, a mobile software startup used by hospitality, healthcare and retail customers, Aron grew the startup into a powerhouse with tens of millions of users, and dozens of industry awards. It was acquired by Bally Technologies (now part of Light & Wonder).

Additional past highlights include serving as an SVP at Hill & Knowlton (part of WPP); and as a Director at The Advisory Board Company, a healthcare consultancy (part of UnitedHealth).
